So looking for recommendations on 6" diamond resin wheels, what is everyone's favorite brands and grits to use for your polishing needs?

I'm partial to Nova wheels by Diamond Pacific. Yes, they cost more, but I like them better and they last me a long time.
60 sintered> 220 hard> 220 soft> then the standard Genie Novas adding 8k, 14k, 50k, and 100k right end laps.

There are some Kingsley wheels. But for whatever reason, they won’t fit on my genie cabber. So… I just stick with diamond pacific. They are pretty similar in price last time I bought wheels.

I agree with most others. Diamond pacific is gold standard for a reason! I cab probably 12-15/week and bought a full replacement set lastminute.com June 2023. I just noticed a few days ago I can see a small section of the fiber that the resin matrix adheres to on my 280 (talking 1x1cm). I'm thinking I should get another year out of that 280 but we will see. All the other wheels are fine and probably just hitting there stride. As realrockhound mentioned, you may experience difficulty getting off brand wheels to fit on a diamond pacific machine. I bought a 60 grit textured wheel that is generic (no branding) and couldn't get the end bolt on the arbor to snug up the wheels. It was probably 1/32" to small. I ended up using a rubber washer similar to an oil pan drain plug gasket and its working fine now. Kingsley told me they do that on purpose to make people have to use their wheels. I seem to read more and more reviews about whatever brand wheels that come stock on cabking having problems. I think alot of the complaints are regarding stray scratches coming from a wheel thats not broken in but I have also seen photos of clearly defective wheels.

I like the Johnson Brother wheels, over the Kingsley North ones. And they were a direct replacement on my KN 6" cabber.

Hi Lapidary1234, great to see you on here! I have also had issues with the stock resin wheels and even Rez wheels for Cabking, mainly with uneven/bumpy coverage - which just does not go away no matter how much you try to even it out, pure quality control issues. Likely to go Nova next time, just have to save up for a year or two! :-)

Where did you find 220 soft Novas? That's why I own one JB Super Nova.

I just spoke with kingsley asking if they know if diamond pacific still makes a 220 and they said they didn't think they make them anymore. You can get nova wheels in 60 and 140. Kn doesn't have any 6" 60 grit in stock atm. I did buy the full sequence of nova discs (endplates) awhile back and aside from the normal break in troubles I have been able to move from the 60 grit nova straight to the 280 often times. This might be because I'm doing flats but the novas produce so much finer of scratches. My 60 nova leaves shallower scratches than my 220 galaxy. I would really line to find a decent resin/matrix 220! liveoak how long ago did you order from Johnson Brothers? I have been tempted to get a 220 soft wheel from them but have heard more than a couple complaints about their service/ship times. I like kingsley because they ship fast and are only one state over from me!

I like kingsley because they ship fast and are only one state over from me! I've ordered from them a couple of times- and honestly not had a problem. They are a smaller place than you'd think and don't "stock" everything, which is why shipping is delayed sometimes. I found you can call them (and they answer) if you call in the AM (Pacific time), and ask them how long to ship an item.
I have a couple of JB 6" wheels & one of their 220 wheels in a 4" that I use, on a separate arbor from my cabber, which I like a lot.
My only complaint about JB was with a re-surfaced wheel.
It started peeling off & they wouldn't honor it.
Go new & I wouldn't worry.

chris1956, I'm fine with how the JB 220 performed. The problem is I messed it up. I was applying to much pressure (I had just started making cabs). I caught a corner and ripped a small chunk out of the center of the wheel. I continued to use it for a while and didn't have any issues. My wife bought me a KN cabber so I haven't been on the other one at all. So, I can't make any good long term evaluation of it but I'd buy another. lapidary1234 I've ordered a few times from JB and it can be hit and miss. I won't order during Quartzite. I place an order that took so long I figured it didn't go through and then at some point I completely forgot about it until it showed up one day. I believe it was about a month and a half. On another occasion I order tumbling grit and got it the next day! The grit seems to be all pre-packaged in flat rate boxes so it goes out really quick. Most of the times it's been pretty normal and takes a few days.

liveoak Thanks for that info! It's nice to hear positive reviews of them. I suppose calling them and asking if its in stick or whatnot is also quite helpful. Often times its easy to just click buy on the internet but knowing if the item is in stock or needs drop shipping or manufacturing is a plus! rockbrain thanks for the tip, I'm sure they are busy on the approach and during quartzite!

I'd just like to say for the record. I have had some really terrible experiences with JB. However, the last few orders went off very well. Wheels seem to ship fairly quickly. For other things- yeah, call ahead. One little thing that was out of stock held up one order for like a month. Calling them was fairly painless, but English was not the mother language of the guy I talked to. He was curt and rude. But, we managed. Just don't expect a really polished professional team there.
