I received this material from realrockhound. Thanks! The slab had a very large crack which you can see in the first slab picture (at least if you blow it up). I did the wetness test and didn't see other ones but they showed up later on. I had decided to cut more or less along that crack but I hadn't gotten an eigth of an inch in when the whole crack gave way. I was going to make a realrockhound throwing star point on top but it broke so I rounded the top rather than redoing the entire side. The green spot at the point got smaller as I polished (why is that always the case that some feature you like disappears as you grind away?). The detail is amazing close up. Not sure how well it shows up in the photos but the clear chalcedony areas allow you to see into the stone. A vug showed up on the inside curve. I should have stopped and filled it with epoxy but went ahead and finished it with the vug. Unpolished Polished Thanks for taking a look, Chris

Nice lil cab. That’s the one crappy thing with the rim jasper. Definitely has fracture in it. Most all I have has it to some degree or another

For all your trouble, you still ended up with a nice cab.

Thanks. Didn't intend it to sound that frustrating.

Wow you nailed that Chris 1956 I think the vugs some times are cool. But I that one is way on the edge of your stone which would make me a little nervous if I was going to do silver setting. Really a home run in my book great work dealing with the crack and coming away with a beautiful piece. Do you grind the girdle at an angle or is it 90 degrees from the bottom. Thx for sharing keep surprising us

Thanks. Didn't intend it to sound that frustrating. Not sure what CA is. Usually just work around the fractures. The micro fractures generally aren’t bad enough for me to worry about. Glad you got to work some. Material is getting scarce at this point for collecting.

Super glue. CA. I always called it super glue but seems most people here go by CA. Short cut for not doing catus juice or the acetone/epoxy method for stabilizing.

Great cab! I often have cracks/fissures etc in my work, as we are learning and the rough we buy is very much not A grade stuff, and it can give character anyway (if you get lucky). :-)

Thx for sharing keep surprising us I keep remembering that I didn't answer your question on the girdle but then forget about it. Got it this time. I did it at 90 degrees from the bottom. Trying to get better at getting the girdle the same all the way around which seems to be hard for me to do.

Chris, the cab looks great! I've worked a bunch of Batcave and Rim Jasper...and it can be seriously frustrating when those fractures seem to appear out of nowhere!
