Like many of you no doubt, I'm sitting on a fairly large collection of tumbled stones. Many of which have flaws and more than likely will need to go back into the barrel for some more grinding. Once they are done and I have a glorious pile of shiny stones, what can be done with them other than just selling them as tumbles? This line of thinking has come from my lovely wife who was looking at my hoard and is already trying to come up with some machinations on what to do with them. I thought I would come up with my own before she claims them for display pieces in trays somewhere in the house. Here are where my brainstorm has gotten me so far: - Wind chime (rocks as strikers against a metal tube or object)
- An analog clock, although honestly I don't see those flying off the shelves anywhere.
- Earrings made from smaller chips
- Wire wrapping pendants.
- Sun catchers with translucent agates?
I'm sure there's more out there but I don't see too much on this board other than really, really lovely tumbles. Granted, the coffee hasn't quite hit the brain yet.
- Rob

I thought I had posted this in the linked thread, but I didn't. ...
You can use tumbles as a medium for "forcing bulbs".

I use pretty rocks to weigh down a vase and anchor artificial flowers.

I am planning on taking a bunch of my random tumbles to my rock club annual show to give away as free pickings for the kids in attendance.
Another idea that I will eventually do, probably next spring, is to make some puddling spots in my rock garden for butterflies and bees.

I gave away a bunch to my great-nephews. I got some of those small clothe bags and let them fill them up. They loved them. I was going to give them away at a craft show but now won't be able to attend. I was thinking that would be a good way to get people to your table. I think rockbrain mentioned that idea at one time.

Yes. I know for sure I've sold a pendant because of it. A family was walking by not paying attention to my booth at all. Called the kids over and the parents started looking at stuff and ending up buying. I've also been given a piece of boulder opal. A guy had several kids and I gave them each a bag and let them pick some rocks. He told me he was going to give back. He pulled out a baggy with several slabbettes of boulder opal and let me pick one out.

I helped run the booth at our local county fair.

That would be an interesting use of tumbled rocks. At least the roots would look pretty among them. We're nowhere near THAT kind of preparedness on the planning, heck I need to get some garlic starts before it's too late here.

We take it to the shows and sell it in various configurations. Even the stuff that doesn't end up polishing all that well will sell as pond rock, because it all looks polished underwater.
