They do show up undercover at rock shows... I've seen it happen and it wasn't pretty. They arrested and hauled a guy off for pet wood being sold that was determined to have been collected from government land without a commercial permit. Edit: It was pet wood or dino bone... can't remember the which exactly. But it was a really bad day and aftermath for that guy. Wouldn't even let him cover his tables before they hauled him off. How would they know that? A lot of wood is distinctive enough to have a good idea, but the reality is they don't have to know. They can just make up an accusation and run you through the process which is punishment enough.

Apologies about the post it, was in jest. As a government worker myself, I believe everyone should be treated with dignity and respect. Even in a case where it was determined to be collected in government land, how things are done are equally important as doing the right thing.
