I'm finally going through some of my estate sale finds in the garage when I happened upon this rock. It has almost a stained glass consistency but is super soft (3-ish on Mohs scale). Warm tan colors and nice stripes, no chatoyance. I'm pretty sure it's natural but the only thing I can think of is maybe some kind of common opal perhaps? What say ye folks? - Rob

If your bacon looks like that... you may need to purchase some new bacon.

Looks like travertine, or what they call Banded Onyx. Possibly Fantasy Onyx or Honey Banded Onyx.
As always, its just my guess and I would say if someone tells you different, go with them!

Definitely not as hard as Onyx, a penny scratched this one. If I were a betting man I would say banded calcite since it's such a softy with more white than orange unless someone else has an idea. It's almost got the look of hardened icing on the polished side. Kind of a weird stone slab really.

Look like banded calcite (calcium carbonate), often mislabeled as "onyx", which is a black and white to black chalcedony (quartz). Try a drop of acid on it, such as vinegar, and see if it fizzes.

On the money! it started fizzing slightly with a white vinegar on it.

Silver Lace Onyx always comes to mind when I see pieces like this...not because that's what I think it is, but because SLO isn't an actual Onyx...but is actually a Calcite...like James said... Gorgeous looking "Banded Calcite" though!!
