In the Covington catalog "old miser" sells for $6.00 lb...Says it assists by quickly making a slurry and holding grit to stone thereby speeding up process and saving grit. Pays off for it's cost many times over in grit and time saved-I have ordered 5lbs. Will let you know!!

I thought I read some stuff about the Old Miser. I seem to recall that the article was about sphere making. Like Birdseed noted Old Miser helps keep the grit on the sphere.
I am not sure how Old Miser would help in a tumbler. I have found using less water than standard helps create slurry much faster. Also, the Thumbler Model B seems more efficient than the Lortone 33b Model. Maybe because the rocks fall or tumble a greater distance in the Thumbler? With, the Thumbler Model B coarse grit is gone in 3-4 days.
