A few months ago I acquired a mini sonic, Thumbler model T, and a Lortone 3A. This thread is about the Lortone and not being able to get the barrel to turn. So I filled it about 2/3 full, filled with water to just below the top of the rocks, 2 tablespoons of grit, and sealed the barrel (no leaks). At this point I plugged in the machine, set the barrel in, and hand turned the barrel to get things going. No luck it just sits there and won't turn. I have attached photos in case it is missing something.

Oil the bearings and check the drive belt to see if it is worn. I have had mine running for 3 years and haven't ever had a problem with the belt (never checked it).

Here is a link to a video (see the second one) and 3A manual below that. This is a really good video and will show you exactly what to lubricate (the video lubricates all four ends of the rods) but the manual only points to two. I would do all 4. It also shows you how to take the plate off the motor area to change or adjust the belt. Again I would try cleaning and adjusting the belt to see if that helps. Same comment on the oil, I use 3 in 1. I think that is what I have heard other members say they use. Not sure if silicone or grease would be good. The manual says to use lightweight lubricating oil which I think would be something like 3 in 1. You should be able to get that at any hardware store. Hope this helps and let us know if it didn't. I've had issues in the past, too. I know this sounds unorthodox, but I wiped down the outside of my barrels with acetone to "deglaze them". Worked for me. No barrels were damaged.

I forgot about that. Have you done that on the shafts also? I tend to get some buildup on those and periodically just rub them clean as best I can.

Chris lortone.com/pages/instructionsFollowed the video, aligned the pulleys, cleaned off the belt, wiped the barrel with acetone, scraped the gunk off the shafts, and oiled the bearings. The motor seems to run good. Not sure about the belt so probably should buy a backup. I heard that it is not best to just buy from anyplace because I have no idea how long it has been sitting on the shelf. Where is the best place to get a belt? It has been years since I bought any 3 in 1 oil, kept looking for the little metal can. Found it in a plastic bottle, still smells the same.

I bought a bag of cheap ones on eBay and they've been fine.
