An interesting material cabochon. I saw a post on Nellite, which made me think of this material, which had been gifted to me by that wonderful gentleman, Malcolm, of the Cape Town Gem and Mineral Club. Thank you again sir! If I ever see more of this material again on one of our holidays down south, I will snap it up in a flash! Mother of Tiger's Eye does not show the typical banding of Tiger's Eye, nor does it show the brecciated (broken up) craziness of Pietersite, but is somewhere in the middle! Margaret of the Cape Town Gem and Mineral Cub explained that the name came from the South African Tiger's Eye miners who said that when they came across that material along with milky quartz, it meant that they were getting close to the Tiger's Eye veins! The necklace is Edo-uchi-himo which translates to Tokyo cord (Edo is the historic name for Tokyo). It is a Japanese natural silk round braided 8-strand Kumihimo cord. Theo

jasoninsd Thank you kindly! I do have a bit of video on it on my IG account, if you search back in whalecottagedesigns for "Number 29 of the pendant series" and swipe you can see the chatoyancy! Looking at it now, the video really is not great quality but you can make it out, sorta! :-)

You've got some amazingly beautiful stones on there!! (Plus...I loved your "steampunk" glasses! LOL)

Theo That works on so many levels! The symmetry and contrast just jump out at you! I think it's always fun to work on a new material, finding out how to coax a beautiful piece out of it. Really, really nice! - Rob

rocknrob Thank you kindly! :-) And now we have Nellite and Mother of Tiger's eye, but I have found a source for another very close cousin of these two in Cape Town as well called Lion's Skin quartz. When I get some of that rough in hand, will post here too.
