velodromed did you try the knife trick to get the coins out ? That’s a good idea. I had forgotten about that one. I think I last used it when I was 10 trying to break into my little brother’s piggy bank. I’ll tell the kid when she gets home and perhaps we’ll try. My gut feeling is that it is full of pennies and that’s it.

I'm late to the party. I would have voted to save the pig. It's just so darling- even with the broken ear.
So, what ever happened?

Couldn’t bring ourselves to break it. It’s too cute and also a neat conversation point. I think at some point we will try the knife trick to get more coins out. But I still think there’s only pennies in it. If I find that it has some older silver coins, then we will probably end up killing the wabbit afterall.

I went ahead and showed my kid the knife trick. She’s been having fun these last few days. No old silvers have come out but a couple more wheat pennies did. The coins do not liberate easily and she spends at least five minutes studying each one, so she’s spends a couple hours at a time sitting there working on it .

I'm glad to hear she is getting so much entertainment out of it. We take old wheat pennies for granted, but they have to be pretty cool for a kid.

I remember growing up and doing the same with a piggy bank that was found at grandma's house. I couldn't tell you what was in it back then, but this stuff comes full circle. I was cleaning out some things at my parent's house a few years ago, and I came across a ziplock baggie with about a dozen indian head pennies. My mom gathered them up when she was a child. Guess who has them now?

Now It’ll be a lengthy treasure hunt Rather than a quick break the rabbit and go through things hunt. It’ll take her a good month or longer to get everything out I hope lol.

Buy a new Safe cracker Proof new one made of copper! Way too fancy my friend. We are basic folk. Seriously though, we like old things, unusual things, quirky things, and our little piggy bank fit them all.

Unfortunately, there was no old Silver in the piggy bank. Mostly pennies with a few nickels and quarters and dimes. The kid did really good with the knife trick and did not damage the little piggy. So I am putting everything back and then we’re going to add a few modern coins, stick it in China Cabinet and maybe someday someone else will have just as much fun as we did.
