BREAK IT OR SAVE IT!? I found this in my storage the other day. I remember finding it left behind in an old house well over 20 years ago. It is solid, there’s no premade hole to remove coins so what’s in there has been in there awhile. The kid and I were able to shake out a handful of pennies but stopped when it began to crack. The oldest was a 1958 wheat penny and newest was from 1972. So. Should we break it open?? We really want to but we really don’t so... What say y’all?

Don't break it... send one of those small USB camera snakes in there and look around... like a colonoscopy...

velodromed Here is how we used to get the $$ out of banks without exit holes: Put a table knife in the slot and maneuver the coins by (gently) sliding them around in the bank ... it takes a while but the coins will eventually get the idea and slide out via the knife
I Love how your pictures "just happened" to include some shiny rocks !

I voted to BREAK IT! haha Antique market values have collapsed in the past 10+ years and as we found out when my momma passed two years ago you can hardly give the stuff away ... and she had some REALLY beautiful and one-time desirable pieces. I personally would rather see what's in the pig. Edited to add: WHY IS THE COLLECTIBLES MARKET DYING?

velodromedMy curiosity forces me ask what it says on the bank ..I can make out "pottery co" in the picture but not the word before that. It might be fun to find it online. Other than sentimental value, the cracks and missing ear probably eliminate that it will have much $$ worth.

It also seems questionable if the section around the whole parted and allowed access to the thing. It looks like a lss asme (kids) repair was attempted in the past, but I can’t tell if the crack went all the way around or not. So the thing may not be worth as much y’all think or…?

Right now I’m thinking we break the thing this week. I’ll talk with the kid after gymnastics and let her decide. *(edit) aw crap. That’s going against my own poll I set up. Ugh. Bad example Doug. Bad Doug. Ok, rest assured, we’ll go by the poll results.
