from Southern CA. How about telling us about yourself, what your interests are, and what brought you here? We tend to be a pretty happy family, and we love learning about each other.

Hi all, I grew up part of the time in Southeastern Arizona where my Dad’s days off were spent exploring and rockhounding. I have fond memories of our whole family crammed in the front of the company 4WD Ford Pickup exploring the desert and hours of looking at the desert floor collecting rocks. My Dad built a tumbler from an old washing machine. He died in an accident when I was 8 years old.
My stepdad was a geology buff so on family vacations we often stopped at road cuts to observe rock formations. We also picked up rocks during family travels in those years.
Fast forward well over 50 years and after my mom’s passing, I now have crates of rocks! My goal is to not pass them on to my grandchildren as crates of rocks. This year I’ve started reading, watching videos and figuring out what to do. I joined a local rock and gem club in June (local=1.25 hour drive to the meetings or the lapidary shop) and a Lortone 33B is being shipped today.
I look forward to learning from you all and going from crates to…..who knows? I’m sorting and resorting to learn which to tumble, which are specimens to save and or give away and which belong in the landscaping.

It sounds like your love of rocks extends well over several relationships! I think it's fantastic you were able to fund a club...although a bit of a drive! We love seeing pictures...and if you need help IDing the rocks, don't be afraid to start a thread...we have a bunch of people who are willing to chime in with some help!
