Wow Ed, that is really cool, I think it's neat. Wish we had geodes around here, I think they are so cool to cut open. Thanks for the pics!!

Your right, it is kinda weird, but still cool. The close up pics are also very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Hey John, I wasn't into geodes either until I cut a few open and saw some others that had been cut. Ya just never know what's inside. If you're getting them from Rhodes, it may be the 50's or 60's before you get them! 2050-2060, that is. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Stoner, Even the 2nd one is pretty cool. Looks like Selenite or probably Calcite. The 1st one is sweet, love those smokey quartz crystals. Steve

I'm not sure what is in the second one. It looks like sheets of mica. Some of the pieces that broke off are white and some are clear. Definetly different.

I bet the first think you said was "Bwaaaaa"! I am a fan of the weird ones, so I like this 2nd one a lot. I like those calcite (?) blades (or selenite, like SteveHolmes says). The first also looks cool. Quite a geode adventure you had there! Steve

What an odd looking Geode. But it sure is interesting to look at. How fragile are those "walls"?
Aren't Geodes great (or any rock for that matter)? They're like those surprise bags you find at the candy store.

Kim, yes the first one is smokey quartz. Very cool. The "walls" are pretty solid, at least the larger ones anyway. The smaller sections are pretty flimsy and break off pretty easily.

what do you do with a cut in half geode ? Do you scrape the gems out or leave intact, just curious.

I'm gonna grind a flat spot on the bottom of the outside so it will stand upright, then polish the cut face and display it. Kinda like those amythest cathedrals.
