Happy to get cabbing again yesterday, although I felt guilty, as it was a beautiful blue sky day, I should have been outside, but I was enjoying myself just the same . Many thanks to Tela rockjunquie , for sharing with me & letting me see and learn about different stones.
I forgot the quarter- but the top doublet is 1 1/2" long.
Really love this Texas Moss Doublet. The black backing really makes the flowery pattern pop.
First time I ground any Nellite.
Nice stuff.
Turritella agate.
Planning on a simple groove wrapped pendant for this one, for myself for a change
Mystery - wondering if anyone knows what stone this is ?
I do know, that it's the perfect-sized turtle shell
Thanks for looking,
Patty

Those are grand! Dig the doublet, it makes it look awesome. And am very fond of the turitella too! Lovely cabs! That last one is interesting too! Came up with a brilliant shine.

Those are great and really love the doublet too!! The future turtle shell looks similar to some of the brown jasper (best guess) that I find around here in northwest Missouri. Although telling if it is jasper, chert, or some sort of brownish moss agate is a fine line. Can't wait to see the finished turtle!

That doublet is beautiful. Thank you, Randy. I made it so large, as I'm trying to get set up to make a round of Bola ties. Should be a nice flashy one for that.

Maybe it's a brown chert-agjasper. I don't think the turtle will mind.
But boy do I see your advantage of having a vibratory tumbler.
Maybe some day.

Ahh another turritella cabochon. I'm not a fossil fanatic yet but the cabochon I did for last month's contest was definitely fun enough for me to keep an eye out for slabs for sale. When I'm finally done with my slabbin' backlog, I'll start getting some rough again but I do have a pretty large backlog. All the cabs are super pretty, and the shine is fantastic. liveoak What grit did you take them up to? I'm only going up to 8K right now but I've been saving higher grits via cerium for some special cabs to practice on, most likely going back and doing it to the Josephine's crown I repolished earlier. - Rob

I really like turritella, and always find it funny, the smell that emanates from the stone, when you start grinding it.
I had a crack open up (if you look closely) so I decided it was for me, although I'm sure it's fine, it was a good excuse to keep it for a change.
It's actually a double-sided cab, since I wanted to groove wrap it.
I use a KN cabber, so take any stone up to 3K on the wheels, then 8K, & 14K on the end discs, with a polishing compound on another end disc after that, in this case cerium. I also have a 50K disc, in reserve, if needed.
You did a great re-do on that Josephine's crown !
Thanks for looking,
Patty

Oooooo, look what you did with that agate. I love it! But, the nellite is nice, too. Did you have any issues with it?

On most cabs, I use the standard wheels on my KN, 80,220,280 soft, etc
But I have a 4" 220 soft I use on my deck bench, on my Baldor, with water, for stones that are harder to get rid of scratches.
Usually it's the clear ones, more than not, but the Nellite was among them.
I wondered if the layers would be a problem - but they are embedded in the stone good.
Thanks for sharing it with me.
