I really like my sheet metal racks but I bought some new pendant boxes the other day that have a black velvet foam insert in them instead of the white cotton stuff that the other ones have. I can't believe how much better the pendants look in them. So I made some new display racks that hold the boxes that are more suitable for a Renaissance Fair. The finish is a Japanese wood preservation technique called Shou shugi ban. It basically consists of torching the surface of the wood then cleaning it off with the wire brush. I used a brass brush then wiped it down with napha and applied lemon oil. Three dowels hold up each row of boxes. They fit into holes on the side pieces and everything folds together on its own. I can just pull them apart and put them flat in a box.

Oh yeah! That's a big improvement especially where presentation is concerned, but I know you like the ease of use, too. I really like the finish. What kind of wood is it?
Your pendants look very nice! I know you will sell well. They speak for themselves and will garner lots of conversations and sales. You've come a long way...

The side wood is just cheap, generic, soft wood from Lowes. They call it white wood. The dowels are poplar and although they are small the finish looks really nice on them. I tried 2 different stains but thought this technique looked best. That is a brilliant display box! And it makes your really lovely looking pendants pop! Very very cool! Thanks Theo! It spaces them out a little better too. I think the other display might have been getting a little busy with so many pieces and overwhelming some of the buyers. You are really getting to be a pro at selling. Thanks Chris! Looks great ! All the best at your show Patty Thanks Patty! I'm getting excited for this one. It's been a bit of work as we repriced every piece and it was time for a good buffing and waxing. Pretty much wrapped it up last night and got the boxes packed.

You're so freakin' talented...I HATE YOU!
(Just kidding! LOL)
The stands look fantastic! Love the treatment you did on them. The black velvet really really really makes those pendants pop! What a positive difference!
