I was fortunately able to sneak another couple of afternoons on the wheels this week, and have a variety of different stones, one curious to me, that I hope someone can ID.
Also want to THANK Randy, RWA3006 for helping add variety in my life Picasso Jasper:
I'm in love with this stone.
Unfortunately, you can't see the sparkles in the photo.
Palm Wood
I can't wait to wrap this one-the pattern with a woven wrap should hopefully look quite nice. Alabama Petrified Wood AKA Mega Pumpkin Mushroom Jasper Pink Amethyst Or at least that's what I had written down that it was, although it's not pink, in the right light it has a slight lavender hue, otherwise I might call it almost gray ?
Mystery ? I got this one as a small preform in some box I purchased, no idea. It's an interesting stone, almost a matte finish, with the black, metallic-looking veins taking a high polish.
The areas between the veins were soft & muddy. Anyone have an idea ?
Update-Indian Paint Stone (thanks miket )
Thanks for looking,
Patty

I really like it as well.
I decided to stay away from the compound with that one, and just polish up to 50K diamond on my end lap, as I knew it would just fill up the pores. But it polished up pretty that way, so I'm happy.
Very nice! I'm going to say Indian Paint Stone... Thanks, Mike, I believe you are right.
The only Indian Paint Stone I've seen before (and cabbed) had a very different gray background. But they both have the "veins". Good call-thank you

Oh wow! I love that Indian Paint stone! Nice one. Yeah, it doesn't really take a polish, but it is so pretty. It's silicated mud. Nice job on them all. I really like that palm, too.

They all look so great! The mushroom jasper is my favorite because you (or just me) don't see that material very often.

Definitely wound up with a smaller cab than I started with They all look so great! The mushroom jasper is my favorite because you (or just me) don't see that material very often. Thanks, Pebblesky.
I like the mushroom jasper as well. I've seen some people call it soap bubble, but I prefer mushroom.

Nice mix of great cabs. I'm a fan of the Indian Paint Stone too, but coming in at a very close second is the mega pumpkin. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice work on all of them. It's so interesting to see a variety of materials together, thank you for posting them! They are all lovely, each has it's own little charm. The Picasso jasper is nice - I think you chose a good shape to show a really neat scene. The Palm is super shiny - you really got a great polish on that one! Mega Pumpkin - It's hard to believe that's a pet wood - it looked almost like sunstone! Amythest - I had to blow this one up to see the detail of the stone, it came out so pretty. Indian Paint is such a cool material, I think you did it justice. Great job - can't wait to see what you make with these.

The Alabama Pet Wood is special to me, as it's self collected, which is not something I get to do much, in my neck of the woods.

It's fun & sometimes extra challenging to do completely different stones at the same time.
