Guidance / help ! Please?
We have a Raytech 10 And it’s our first time using it and our first time using a vibratory Tumblr. And my first time using this forum. But somebody named Rob said this was a good place so I definitely trust him.
A lot of the rocks after the second step have very clear metal scratches on them as though they are rubbing against metal??
The only metal thing in there is the metal rod that goes through and connects the top. It seems hardly possible that so many rocks would’ve gotten up there and hit it. ?
Husband theory is that they’re not actually scratches to the rock it’s that the rock has scratched something and the metallic stuff is not actually a scratch at all??
I have two photos, but I can’t figure out how to attach them. Sorry and thanks
Carla

It's probably Aluminium from your sieves (perhaps). Anyway, don't worry about it the next stage will remove it, until you get to polish and then the rock will be too shiny to remove any metal from wherever it is coming from.
Welcome from Australia.

Are you using a metal strainer at cleanout? If so, that might be what is showing on the rocks. They are not scratches but residue from the mesh and will come off in polish. Welcome from NC.

Could be from the threaded rod, if you don't have enough material in the bowl, the vibrations can throw rocks around instead of just moving them around. I had five or six, 1/2" to 3/4" sized, rocks tossed out of the bowl first time I turned on my vibe tumbler... I purchased some 1" and 1.5" tall rubber bushings from Amazon to get a buffer zone between the rocks & threaded rod & nut, and started loading the tumbler to about 1/2" below the center tower of the bowl. Rocks that are hard enough, i.e. Jasper, Agate, etc... will actually scratch the metal leaving metal residue on the rocks which is what your husband has described. I use imgur for photo hosting, it's free and practically unlimited in the number of photos you can host there. Then once you've uploaded a photo, you can post it here. Say I wanted to post a photo of a potential guitar pick that I plan on making out of Dragons Blood Jasper. I upload it then get a link after it's uploaded: i.imgur.com/KMNpPtRl.png then I click on the "Insert Image" icon in the post editor, & voila There's also a step by step post for using Cloudinary to post photos (never tried it myself) found here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/page/using-cloudinary.

The 10 must be set up differently than the 5. When I put the lid on the 5 none of the threaded rod is exposed inside the bowl.

Could it be some of those marks are trim saw scratches? I have found it takes a few extra days to get them out with a vibe.
