Holy cow those are some amazing rocks! But those plumes - those are "the pinnacle." *So back when you said the richardsons sunset I posted was the pinnacle of that material, I labeled it "the pinnacle." Every once in awhile I take it out, show it to D and say, "You know what this is??? Its the pinnacle." It's about one of my favorite things to do every so often. But for real, those plumes are drool worthy. If you saw some of the crumbs of powell butte I have, you'd laugh and tell me to show you again when they grew up.

#2 looks similar to the "Bighorn" fluted jasper from Wyoming. Here's a pic of a slice that I have. The big chunk was made into a very nice 5" sphere You have no idea how much I love you right now! So last night, after I scoured the interwebs to death, I landed upon that fluted jasper from wyoming. There were literally only 3 photos of the material online that I was able to find. Since I didn't have enough variation to compare to, I let that lead go. Then here comes you saving the day!!! I honestly am so happy about this one. I get ridiculously happy when I can put a label on a mystery piece, thanks so much!

With all due respect to the rockmeister I'm also thinking #2 might be something other than Stoney Creek. I've studied and explored and collected and bought a lot of Stoney Creek and to me the breccia is different, 'dirtier' and almost always containing red. My first thought was Stone Canyon but it's missing a couple of tells for that. San Jacinto Creek also came to mind from a Stone Canyon region possibility. I'm going to follow up on this one too. I was responding in order and just noticed you offered more to go on as well. I can't blame rocklobsta for saying stoney creek - it was my first impression until I noticed it was off. I don't have nearly the kind of hands on experience that you do with Stoney Creek where I'm able to point out why it is off, I was only able to feel like it wasn't quite right but not know why. Thanks for describing the difference in a way that made sense.

Maybe I’m thinking of a different material, but all the Stoney creek I’ve seen had that black in it, unlike the others. Agree with you here - the only thing I could put a finger on as to why I felt it was off for stoney creek was that it had too much solid and not enough breccia. Tommy splained it better than I could. But I wasn't sure enough to decide for myself, which is why I was sure you were right and I was over thinking it.

Tommy - is San Jacintos brecciated similar to Jacalitos? I'm not specifically familiar with Jacalitos but I know that there is a lot of similarities in the jaspers from around the Stone Canyon area. Maybe Sabre52 would take a look at #2 in the original post and chime in. That area is one of his old stomping grounds before a lot of it got shut down I think.

realrockhound - i'm getting confused as heck now. It's all looking the same now. I'm starting to realize why so many were labeled "brecciated jasper" or "red moss." Like you said earlier, unless you're the one pulling it out of the ground, hard to say for sure. Where's that quote of yours when I need it???

I added the stone canyon and prefumo ID's - thank you realrockhound. I always mix up stone canyon and stoney creek! For some reason I always assume they are the same name. Thank you to rockjunquie and fencejumper too - I appreciate the joint effort. This was like tag team rock ID. Fun!!!
