Here I am at Stage 3. But now my tumbler is only about 1/3 to 1/2 full. My ceramic pellets are in Stage 1 with a new batch of rocks, so hopefully I can build a stockpile of ceramic for future use. But… What do I do for my Jasper and chert now, though? The tumbler is running… should I pull them out and start another Stage 1 project and wait until I have similar Mohs rocks also ready for Stage 3? Is there something I can run out and buy tomorrow for use in Stage 3? Like glass aquarium pebbles or… something?
I appreciate your thoughts! JanJan

Check places like Lowes or Home Depot in the garden section for landscaping pebbles, preferably some type of quartz.

Thank you! I picked up two kinds of pebbles at Lowes. Both are for potted plants. One kind- the smaller pebbles- feel like normal rock and are mostly rounded. The larger are waxed, I think. Just slightly. Can I put those in my tumbler? Or do you have hot tips for cleaning off the wax?

May have epoxy on them, which is done to color rock, mainly for aquariums. Landscaping rocks are likely not coated though, may just be the natural texture of the stone. Can you post pics of the stone and the information on the bag?

Couldn’t figure out how to post pictures on this forum. The Brand is Akasha. “Leader in Decorative Accents”. Mixed River Pebbles. In houseplants area, not outdoor landscaping.

After buying perhaps 1,000 lbs of small quartz gravel in last 10 years for tumbling filler, I'm under the impression that most of it comes from China and has been tumbled with wax or something similar. It seems to have no downsides however. Must of the gravel sold at Lowe's and similar is softer than quartz, so you have to be careful as that is a waste of money for tumbling.

I agree about the aquarium rock from Lowes. I don't know what it is but it isn't very hard. There is probably some river rock (in our area) that is hard and you could get but it is in 50 pound bags.
