Where did you score that? An abandoned turquoise mine in Central Nevada. Have not been able to find the mine name yet, but plan to go back soon and dig around some more.

That is also turquoise.
Turquoise comes in about 90 shades of blues and greens. A lot of Nevada turquoise is green from the high iron content.

Nice stuff! What size are these pieces? As a general reference, the bright blue nugget at the top is around the size of a dime.

Really nice finds! Maybe I need to rethink Kingman, AZ and instead drive West into Nevada?!? Definitely interested in learning more about this area!!!

Just got back from another 3 day trip driving up to Northern Nevada, then working our way back. Made a quick stop at the turquoise mine and found some more pieces. Did not have a lot of time a it was getting late in the day by the time we got there. Getting too cold to travel North again right now, so will probably not go again until spring.

I definitely need to plan more than a day to explore most of these places and I agree the colder weather is making it more difficult, especially at elevation for this former Floridian! I took a road trip through S Nevada this weekend to drive the Lake Mead scenic roadway and to check out the 2 spots listed in a Gem Trails of NV book - Three Kids Mine (found some green seam agate and green jasper, but nothing spectacular) and gave up due to rough road conditions trying to get past Buffington Pockets (near Valley of Fire)... sounds like more of the good stuff is much further North in NV! I think I'll stick to S Utah and Arizona til Spring!

I think I'll stick to S Utah and Arizona til Spring! Three Kids Mine is supposed to be completely closed off right now. It is private land, and a very toxic area they are supposedly trying to clean up before building homes over the old mine site. The clear green there is actually a green chalcedony commonly known as "Henderson jade". There are small seams of it not far past the mine mixed in with mottramite, which is as lead copper vanadium oxide hydroxide mineral. Not good for cabbing, but is a collectors specimen. There is a small deposit of green, and a blue-green jasper across the road, as well as some nice galaxy stone.
I have never gone up in to Buffington Pockets, but our club made a trip up there maybe 8 months ago and found some really nice purple chalcedony. I need to ask exactly where to go to find it.
Most of Southern Nevada is off limits. Either National or State parks, national monument, military, private, claimed, etc. For instance, just within the last few years, everything from downtown Las Vegas up to Indian Springs about 40 miles North on the East side of the 95 was made the Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument. And everything from Searchlight to the Southern tip of Nevada was recently made the Avi Kwa Ame (Spirit Mountain) National Monument. Pretty soon there will be no place left to go here in Southern Nevada.
