I thought I would post pictures of the inaugural tumble of my homemade tumbler for large agates. I posted this build in the lapidary Equipment section of this forum for more information. I loaded it up with 235.8 lbs of Large agates of the same hardness. Below is a list and pictures of what I loaded it with: 13.0 Petrified Wood 13.4 Green Moss Agate 15.0 Green Tree Moss Agate 22.8 Grey Agate 24.4 Blue Grey agate 27.2 Brazilian Agate 47.6 Montana Moss 48.6 Dentritic Agate

I would be real interested to hear how the first cleanout goes as that would seem to be the biggest challenge.

May plan is to roll the barrel by hand slowly and dump slurry into a wheel cart I have and haul out to woods and dump. once it gets low enough, I will remove the middle piece of aluminum and pull rubber gasket down further. Take rocks out and wash out with hose etc. Yes, it will be very interesting to see how this will shake out. I plan on doing this weekend.

I assume the yellow thing is there for scale, but what (and how big) is it?
I look forward to seeing/reading about your results and experiences.
I would expect rocks this big in a tumbler this big to beat each other up; I have enough trouble with bruising on larger tumble sized rocks in a 12lb barrel.

That's a nice Big Tumbler Looks like you need a bucket of 1 inch gravel to pad the load. How much grit does it need ?

Are you planning on taking these rocks all the way through polish in this beast? If so would you use filler as cushioning and what would you use for that?
I'm excited to watch your progress!!!

I don't think so. For now I am just using it for the 1st stage. Once they are ready I will move them to my 40lb tumbler to complete.
Thanks
