   Really loving all the different types of Obsidian I've found recently in Utah. Love the snowflake, mahogany, and flame? varieties. I'd never seen the bright red/orange solid pieces before recently. Showing some recent specimens as well as some that have gone through stages 1, 2, & 3 on a Vibe tumbler... waiting for a 2nd bowl to move onto polishing (thanks for all the recommendations on the forum) Hopefully they'll all end up shiny! Next up is a quick trip to Henderson/NW Arizona for some surface searching and hopefully a long weekend around Kingman, AZ later this month! -Mark |

I have some of what I thought was mahogany obsidian that I collected near the Dugway geode beds, but it is very crumbly so I guess it's not obsidian. Anyone know what that stuff is?

Obsidian is one of my favorite, though often frustrating, tumbles. Be ready for some trial and error figuring out how to get a nice polish on those! But I implore you to persevere, because when that polish is there it's an absolutely beautiful rock! Here's some mahogany obsidian I polished a while ago:    Wow! Those are amazing! I'll be patient and probably keep some matte and some polished, but definitely understand the trial and error already (right amount of time, grit, water, filler... so many variables!!! ) Appreciate the reply and hope mine turn out half as nice as yours! |

I'm not a big fan of obsidian but it can be beautiful for sure. Send me a message if you are coming down to the Kingman area.

Looks like material that comes from just North of Milford. I've been to Ivins many times, nice place and lots of rockhounding nearby.

Looks like material that comes from just North of Milford. I've been to Ivins many times, nice place and lots of rockhounding nearby. Correct! Black Rock area, walking the washes to the North and West. |

I really like Rainbow Obsidian with the cool greens and blues. Getting difficult to find, though. I want some.
