Hello, Im new to rock tumbling. I recently bought a raytech TV10 and so far I like it. I am looking for thoughts or reviews on using different shapes of ceramic tumbling media. Such as round balls vs. angled cylinders and such. Also looking to learn from other experienced people, both their good experiences and bad experiences. Open to ideas since I am new to this.
Anyways, hello from Michigan!

Welcome from Dubai! Am not a tumbler, rather a cabber, so cannot help with the tumbling. But there are a lot of tumbling folks here who can and will help!

Welcome from Washington state. I use large and small ceramic angle cylinders. I've never used round media but I would venture to say it would work about the same as the cylinders and maybe very well for cushioning more than helping to grind away at hard to get to spots on the rocks. One thing I do know is that ceramic media does wear down quicker than I thought it would. Meaning, the large cylinders do get smaller over time in the 60/90 grit stage. I use nothing but ceramic media, works great.

Heheh, I'm experimenting with the dreaded Labradorite tumble using small plastic beads in the hope that it doesn't bruise so badly this time. Welcome!

Hi from Australia I had a bit of a problem with small cylinder and triangular prism-shaped ceramic media wearing down into skinny flat things that broke during tumbling. I like using a mix of sizes, but I now avoid using them in later stages when they start getting too small to avoid this from happening again. The skinny ones get used as grinding fodder in the coarse stage.
