I have some "rainbow stone" that I got for my aquariums, and a few pieces have just been sitting to the side. Since I'm not using them in the aquariums, I thought I'd try breaking a few apart and tumbling them! (Maybe I'll use them afterwards though!)
Sandstone seems to be around 6 or 7 on the hardness scale. That puts it around the same as Labradorite or Tiger's Eye. So should the typical grits work on it? Has anyone tumbled sandstone before that could offer more specific times for it? I'm currently planning to do the typical 3/5/5/3 for starters, checking it after each one and extending it as needed. But if anyone here has personal experience and could tell me the exact time frame they used, that would help me to avoid over-tumbling.
And has anyone out there tumbled Rainbow stone, specifically? Do you have photos so I could see the end result? I have one piece that is mostly darker with light stripes, and then another that is mostly light with dark stripes, for an exact opposite effect in coloring.

Prepare to be disappointed, Sandstone might be hardness 7 but that's because it is made out of Quartz, really it is whatever hardness the stuff sticking the grains together is.
