Today, A Monday a package was delivered to my doorstep. It's 2 Priority large flat rate boxes fit together to make 1 big box. It was shipped via USPS Ground Advantage. The item was ordered through Amazon Prime and shipping was free. I'm surprised that USPS let that fly. I wonder how much shipping actually cost ?

THAT is weird! I'm surprised they let that go, too.

The flat rate thing really has to be putting a huge hit on the bottom line of USPS. The fact that they will ship you pretty much any quantity of these boxes for free is just crazy. Most of the rock orders I receive use their free materials for packing and padding inside the package. I use them a lot for storage. I cut them up and use them when I need smaller chunks of cardboard. You would think they would collect for the postage when they give out the box.

What does the postage label say? I assume they had to ship by regular Priority package rates, not a flat rate. The post office I shipped from in Oregon insisted that flat rate boxes not even bulge a little bit, or I had to pay the higher rate. Not shipped from an Amazon warehouse, I'm guessing. I cut up boxes to make reinforcing panels for the flat rate boxes so they don't turn into bowling balls on their way to their destination, try to avoid using new FR boxes, but I didn't choose to use the low strength cardboard they use, having to mummify a box in packing tape is already an added expense.
