One of my to-do someday things is to start cutting up some of this beautiful, highly agatized Utah Red Horn Coral.

I dug a lot of that fine material years ago when I lived in Salt Lake City. I don't know what happened to it after an ugly divorce. I have just a few pieces left to remind me of the beauty of the mining area. It cuts nice rounds of fine color that preserve excellent cell structure. I never experimented with other cab shapes but I suppose they're possible.

Center one is not as agatized but took a decent polish. The other has quite a bit calcite but polished okay.

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I have found horn coral in Michigan but the color is not spectacular. Most is calcite (similar to Petoskey stone color) but it seems to polish well unless the coral has a lot of voids or is overly soft. Once in a while you find one that is silicified and vary hard and you can tumble them.

Gorgeous!
We find "plain jane" colored Horn Coral over in our neck of the woods...pretty much like Chris's. My wife did on one occasion, find a purple hued one! I don't know where she's got that thing hidden though!
