Cookie asked to see a pic of the unfinished fish, so i picked a slab today and cut it up on the saw (shown dry): Sharpie now makes the permanent/waterproof metallic marker that makes life a lot easier when working with darker stone, those aluminum pencils just don't cut it for me. ok, here are the trimmed front and back, remember in my trim saw you can only make straight cuts so those inside corners get a bit tricky. i should dremel them to be perfectly smooth (these are shown wet): so now this little fishy has a long swim upstream in the tumblers. if i was in a rush, i would grind his edges first, but as i am in no rush....i'll throw him in the next batch of coarse and in 6-8 weeks he'll be done. golden brown, even. ;D thanks for looking! yes, mam...trim saw and a pair of pliers. the inside corners i make lots of close cuts and then "nibble" the shards off with the pliers.

Beautiful, KD. I'm surprised how well the shape holds up during the tumbling process. I gues the fact that it is slabbed helps. Any secrets about the tumbling process? Thanks! cookie

Cookie, that brazilian agate is pretty tough stuff, though i have had a fin tip on one of the angels get bitten off by a rock shark. but for the most part, i don't put too many in any one batch, true for all small slabs. and i keep'em in coarse til the shape is acceptable and what shines up better than Brazilian?
