I've always been into fossils and these fish are one of the main reasons! A good friend of the family was a geologist and gave these nice 2 plates to me. Like yours, mine are from Fossil Butte in Kemerrer, Wyoming too. Fossil Butte is a very cool place and I highly recommend anyone travelling thru southwest Wyoming to make a special trip there. I'm gonna mount mine in some nice frames someday. Gaetz ps....love yours too Edog....whatch ya gonna do w/ yours

Plan on framing mine also, but how? Takila says I should do them in a shadow box kind of thing. I want frames on the wall.

Wow, those are cool looking you guys. They look like they're ready to put on the stove and cook!!! Framing those would be a snap Edog. Send me a PM and I'll explain.

Ive got a couple of these - both of them I bought in shops. The good thing about these fish fossils is there appears to be a lot of detail preserved.

Would love to get a few samples of these for display in the house. They are really neat. Think they would be fantastic in a display with different slabs etc.
Thanks for the pics.

Mark, if you poured water on the one in that first pic, I swear it would swim away!

Those are cool! I like fossils in general. In the beginning of March the rock club I'm in went to the Mazon Creek area near Braidwood, IL. The best one I found was a jellyfish where you could still see the head and some tentacles. Two weeks ago went to a quarry near Oglesby. IL. I got many brachiopods and one gastropod. You couldn't help but to walk on crinoids. Tomorrow we are to the Banner Marsh area south of Peoria, IL. I'll try to post some photos.
I don't have any fish fossils yet, but those fish ones shown here are really nice.

Don - I think its upside down - I can see a couple of fins at the top of the pic - and a single dorsal at the bottom of the pic. The fish does appear to be set at an angle whereby it looks like its coming towards me/us at about 10 degrees Although you cant see it in the pic - the scales stand out quite well individually. Its quite a good quality fossil sample.

Hey, Kg I know where Oglesby is. It's right off of I-39. I had to go to court there a few years back for a ticket I got. Please do post some pics.

Very cool, but I can't help but wonder if they're real? Some are real I'm sure, but How do they know there's a fossil in a certain rock, and how do they know where to cut / break the stone so just 1/2 the fish appears perfectly from head to tail? I've seen a lot of fossils like this, and never see any with a partial tail or face broken off.
Just seems to be some sort of cast molding. some are just too perfect

Very nice- I too love fossils- THis weekend (instead of cabbing) I was trying to figure out how to fix the Fog light in my truck (Stefan+ not paying attention+ four wheeling into snowbanks= busted Fog light) Well on the ground where I was laying (no I was not napping) I found 3/4 of a Brachiopods, some other kind of shell fossil, and a chunk of Unakite!!!! Love Fish fossils-
