Tony brought me his chunk of Mexican Onyx to slab and cut into smaller chunks and man, thisd stuff is beautiful. It took me less than 30 minutes to cut 10 slabs. They're laid out in order starting at the lower right and going towards the left, then the upper right going towards the left. They range in size from 5" x 3" to 6 3/4" x 3 1/4". I don't know why people don't use onyx as much as they did in the '50's and before, cuz it sure is nice looking material and takes a great shine.

Oh wow - that stuff is beautiful - I see cabs in the near future! I specially like the pinky-orangy tones

That is beautiful. I think becaue it is a little harder than other stones it takes a more skill craftsman to work with it. You did a great job slabbing that onyx. Tami

Tami, actually this stuff is fairly soft, not sure what the mohs# is but it's a lot softer than agate. But it takes an incredible shine. I posted a pic of a cab I worked up from one of these slabs in the cab section. It took me half as long to make a cab than it does with some of the other materials I normally use.

I agree, that stuff is easy to cut and take a easy polish.

Nice is right! Are you gonna make cabs out of them Tony (or at least try to)?
