I got a little suprise from Matt today. I had sent him one of those water trays so he could make a flat lap and I was expecting a check in the mail. But when I opened the mailbox, I found one of those big padded envelopes weighed down on one end. I checked the return address and thought, hmm, must be a rubber check. ;D Well, there was a check and also a nice piece of pet wood and a piece of plume agate from Utah. The pet wood is a really cool looking chunk. Awesome looking grain on it. I couldn't tell what was in the plume agate till I cut a slice off of it. Here's both pieces. Here's a couple of closeups of the end of the pet wood. You can still see the pores of the original wood in the end grain. Notice how the colors carry through. And here's what was inside the Utah plume agate. Thanks for the rocks Matt. As soon as my back quits bugging me I'll work up some cabs and post the pics.

Ed-
You sure that wood ain't Palm? Now, I'm definitely no expert, but I've always ID'd palm as wood w/ lots of "pores, dots, circles, blobs etc, etc" I'd maybe do a little research on it. Just my two cents. Whatever it turns out to be, it sure is nice and a great little suprise to make that aching back feel better.
Speaking of your aching back, Ed, maybe if you wouldn't spend so much time on Ebay and going to the door every time it rings (I'm guessing 5 or 6 times a day) to pick up your boxes of rocks, you'd be better off......LOL. Sorry to hear it's giving you trouble.
Love the new arrivals.

Wow that stuff is awesome, looks like a chunk of real wood still, almost like you could count the rings. Nice job Matt!! Awesome color on the plume too.

Glad you got it, Ed. That was quick. My favorite piece from my last load of pet wood came from a rock just like that one. It really shines up nicely. I feel a little silly in that I hadn't even really noticed the pores on the end. Gaetz, I don't think it is pet palm. You're right about the pores, but it seems like every piece I've seen cut with the grain had short lines that ran the length of the pores. I think Puppie had a chunk in her pic of pet wood I had traded her (lower left of pic, if I recall).
Thanks again for the water tray and plans, Ed. Hope your back feels better soon.

Thanks guys, having a pinched nerve in your back is NO FUN! That slab of plume is sitting on my grinder just waiting for me.
Thanks again Matt.

Hope you get well soon. You will better be, who knows maybe some crazy Serbian is running loose searching some great pet. wood and plume agate. Even crazier things happened. Is that pain somehow related with making to much cabs? Send your rocks to me and pain will disappear.

nice try, Zotika, hahaha.
i have been trying to sit straighter for long sessions on the grinder, as i can end up feeling like a sore pretzel if i'm not careful. not to mention the bare spot on the tip of the nose.

Sorry Zotika, my back will get better and I'll be back to cabbing again. I tore my back up a long time ago, pulling weeds no less. Since then, out of the blue it acts up and there's noting I can do about it but ride it out. I just got a box of awesome looking plume agates from Toad(pics to follow) so I definetly will be cabbing soon.

Ed, good to hear you are getting better. Never mind that rocks. I am looking forward to see your new cabs.
Bay the way, KD, I have same problems. Since my athletic days are long gone, during cabbing my nose is getting dangerously close to the grinding wheel. That is the reason why I installed pull-up bar in my workshop's doorway. Although, I don't use it for pull-ups all the time - it is good for stretching my backs.
