this all got started with a cab of chysocolla the fractured coming off the dop stick.. ...the red arrows point to the crack: so i took it back down to the grinder and came up with a shape that kinda looked like the abdomen of a spider, so i thought, cool, i'll make a spider pouch similar to the snake one i'd made for Randy's daughter. but, it needed a head. the little "head piece" that i made didn't look anything like a spider, so i thought maybe a beetle. then, being a bit of an egyptian art fan i came up with an idea but then had to make yet another cab to complete the set! here is a step by step, first the glueing of the cabs to the backing material: beading shots: all finished and trimmed (the scariest part, because you want to get close to the beading but not clip the thread.): and then a bit of leather work, i sewed the purse and braided the handle, then epoxied my medallion to it: this took days, of course, and many labor intensive hours to save the little green rock! thanks for looking! Thanks for posting the how-to KD, it's wonderful to see a finished piece come together from scratch. Very nice work and photos.

Looks like an egyptian scarab beetle, nicely done, and yes you are right it is hard to cut the backing off without cutting the beading thread. Tami
