New Mexico has been experiencing a major drought for about 6 years now. We got no measurable precipitation from September '05 to June '06. Since late June we have been receiving almost daily monsoons. Today it rained over 2 " in one hour. The streets became rivers, complete with waves! Awesome! Here's some photos - ;D S EARLY ON ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/P8170002.jpg) LATER ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/P8170015.jpg) STILL LATER ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/P8170012.jpg) The rain ended up going up over people's hoods. I was home before that happened.... My apologies to you Washingtonians and Mississippians to whom the rain is old hat. Here it's cause for mucho celebration! ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) S

Good grief! I haven't seen a rain like that in ages. You must have a powerful raindance, what's your secret?

I'm in Albuquerque, smack dab in the middle of the state. I feel sorry for you guys with the flooding and stuff (Hatch under 4 feet of water, roads washed away, arroyos and dams bursting) but I don't live in a flood plane so I'm loving it. I have a 4 wheel drive pick-em-up with pretty good (11") ground clearance, so I like to get out and slosh around in the water...AND, as an extra benefit, when the roads are driveable and I can get back out into the desert, there will be a whole new crop of rock that has floated to the surface or been exposed by the rain. Heavy rain makes for good rockhounding. Where are you, Sands? ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) WOOHOO! Keep those rain dances comin'! I haven't seen a monsoon season like this since I first moved to the state in 1979. Susan

We had 3 thunderstorms in one 24 hour period on Sunday, two weeks ago today. My house sits downhill from the street, so I get runoff from the street which ponds up in the middle of my driveway. I have a drain system of 4" pipe which goes into an underground drainfield.. Those 3 storms put an overload on the system, and the water backed up into my garage. Thats the first time in the 20 years that I have lived here that has happened. It was over 3" deep in there, and it took about a day to drain out. I waited a few days before starting the cleanup. Lots of floaties and a fine silt on everything. It really was a good time to happen as I needed to reorganize and cleanout. I had to have more room to store ROCK!

Yeah, Lea County and Eddy County down here in the southeast have had a wonderful past month. Rain just about every day, with a good storm at least once a week. Last Friday we had people canoeing in the streets for fun in Hobbs. I never thought I'd see that!
