Well I took the pieces of Picasso jasper KD sent me last week and glued them up this afternoon and here is the first one, almost done. I still have more shaping of the blade and cleaning up to do. I used a piece of black jade(I think that's what it is. Sandsman sent it to me a while back)for the blade. Whatever it is, it took a nice edge and by the time I'm done with it, I could use it for a steak knife. The other set of handles KD sent me are glued up too, so I should have a second knife finished in a few days. Thanks KD, you were right, these do make nice knife handles. The other side Looking down on the blade. When I get the other one finished, I'll take some better photos.

You really have to take pics of the process, do a brief write-up, and send it to Rock&Gem "Craftsman of the Month". I think that's a guaranteed winner.

Best knife yet Ed!! Handles are fantastic and I especially like the more aggressive blade shape. Yep! Send that write up to Rock & Gem. Looks like a winner to me to. Quick question: Could you post a pic of how your shaping rig is set up for shaping long stone pieces? Don't beleve I could get those long pieces against my Genie wheels.....mel

Hey that's a great idea Mel. I've seen the stuff that wins "craftsman of the month" and I'm thinking Ed has a great shot at winning!!

Very nice indeed Ed, It does have a rela nice sleak shape and i bet it works great as a skeak knife. Ive used one a made a long time ago like that, with friut too. The Picasso really flows nice with the black blade. Good idea on the R&G too. I sent a write up to them a while back for stone knifes and i havent heard or seen anything. BUt when i called them before sending it, they siad it can sometimes take a full year before they show the write up.

Beautiful knife stoner, hunting season is coming up, think you will have it sharp enough for skinning? HAHA. I think everyone has a great idea about putting in Rock and Gem. Terry

Thanks everyone, and a special thanks to KD for having the insight to see a great possibility for knife handles in these slabs. Mel, I have an older Barranca grinder and even though I've added more wheels than it was originally designed for, there is still more room between the wheels than you have on a Genie. It takes some contortion on my part to get to the inside part of the blade and even then, I will have to do some Dremel work on it to clean it up. It would be nice to write this project up and send it to R&G magazine. I sometimes wonder about some of the projuects I've seen them feature. Cher, the overall length of this one is 5 1/8" and the blade length is 2 3/4". The handle is 3/4"x3/4" in diameter. The jade material I used for the blade is some really hard material and took some grinding to get it narrowed down to a fine point.
