Hi all. I stopped by my local rock shop today just to see what was new and walked out with some really cool slabs. This one is HUGE! Some kind of moss agate measuring 11" across. I can cut a lot of cabs from this puppy. some close ups. One of these is a nice Stone Canyon and I don't know what the other one is. Graveyard plume Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper. I met one of their regular customers and was talking with him for quite awhile about rocks and I think I recruited a new member here. He said he'll check out our messageboard and probably join. He said he doesn't have anyone to talk about rocks with, so I told him there will be plenty of folks here to talk rocks. Then, when I got home, the slab of the new poppy jasper I won on ebay was in the mailbox. I was talking to the guy at the rock shop about this stuff and he said it comes from farther north in Calif, above Sacramento near the Eel River.

Kewl! I love to look at slab pics! that huge moss agate is spectacular. I have a piece of rough kinda similar from Durango, Mexico. Man, I can't wait to see the cabs from that. There's an outcrop similar to that yellow poppy jasper in Pope Valley, CA too......mel

Congrats on the new cabs... er, slabs... though they have probably been turned into cabs by now ;D.
You got some nice materials, it will be interesting to see how that new poppy jasper turns out when cabbed.

Ed, that frist size is perfect for knife making. AS thats the biggest problem i run into when making knifes. AS its important the handle size fits an adult hand, and it propostite to the blade. The longr the slab, the high chance i find in filling these reqiurments. Of chorse that are only requirments i put on myself after years of making stone knifes. But thats one of the frist things i do when i shop at Quartzsite and Tucson, large slabs for knife making.

Yea, as it turns out, it was a good day to stop at the rock shop. I cut cabs from the MHPJ and the Stone Canyon and posted them in the cab section.

Wow Ed, it seems like that guy must do a lot of slabbing. I can't imagine the saw that made that monster slab. Wow. I like the MHPJ slab lots! I am glad he was able to identify the mystery poppy jasper. Can't wait to see a cab from it! It's strange that it came from so far north. I have never hear of poppy jasper coming from up there. Steve
