Took a nice trip to the desert with some friends today, did a little rock collecting. With all the rain the desert is lovely...there was no Sun, a low ceiling of clouds, presumably from Hurricane John. ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/Desert5.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/Desert1.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/Desert4.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/Desert3.jpg) My Friends. ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Misc%20NM%20Images/TheHernandezFamily.jpg) Will post photos of the rocks we found tomorrow. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) S

Nice photos Susan. It must have been pretty cool out there since your friends are wearing long pants. I see your friend thinks you're #1.(note the finger on top of the sign)

Hahaha - y'all are very observant. Armando hates having his photo taken and I made him get out of his Jeep to pose next to the bullet-ridden sign. Hence, the "sign language". Tracy and Maddy, much better subjects, were oblivious.
I had just dragged them through miles and miles of blow sand after forcing them to drink an entire bottle of tequila the night before. I AM NUMBER ONE!
;D S
STONER - temps are moderate as a cold front just moved in. We always wear long pants whenever rockhounding in this area due to the proliferation of rattlesnakes.

Can anyone from NM ID this? I think it's some kind of Palm Wood. The parcel in the first photo is going to John Sands. ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Rough/JohnsPile.jpg) Small pieces for my trim saw ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Rough/Palm1.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Rough/Palm2.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Rough/Palm3.jpg) ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Rough/Palm4.jpg) It looks like this tumbled ![](http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/NMrocks/Tumbled%20Rock/FaveWood.jpg) ;D S

Good finds!
Definately some different rocks in the desert than what you'd find around here.

What part of the desert is that? It looks like mine, and the same weather we've been having too.

Dang! Now that's a lot of nice rocks. That one type sure looks like palm from the pic and I know there's plenty of palm in New Mexico. Certainly a colorful and interesting barch anyway. Lots of good fun there for sure....mel

Got love the desert, espically during the monsoons. Weve got a big hual of rain this year too, so everything is blooming and green. Nice rocks, and i would concur on the Palmwood too. Fun stuff for cutting and tumbling.

Wycked-
Those are quite the finds. I love your palm and think that will turn out UNbelievably nice. I've found some palm here in Utah, but not any w/ that size. I see some nice bubblegum agate (Pict 2 in the tumbler fodder section) in there, is there any red coloration in that piece?
