Ed - You should send that in to the rock shop that runs the monthly contest. Great idea, unique, well done.
I was in a jade museum last week and it boggles the mind what craftsmen carved hundreds of years ago without electricity or Foredoms or diamond.

Thanks everyone. I love a challenge and this was a good one. The first hurdle was cutting a rock I paid $30lb for, knowing that most of it was going to be waste! Very little work was done on the grinder. I used a Dremel to do the basic shaping and the hole but all the detail and clean up was done using diamond files and sandpaper. I used my leather belt and 50k diamond paste to polish it and then a leather disc to get the areas that were missed by the belt. Rhodocrosite is soft and tends to want to chip, so I had to be careful working it. It looks a lot nicer in person, it's hard to capture the full effect in the photo. So, anyone else have something challenging for me? ;D

Sure, Ed . . . . . How about a Mobius strip, maybe in rainbow wood.

Awesome Ed... thanks for the follow up. This reminds me of an article in Rock and Gem about a guy that does agate carvings... most of the pictures of the carvings in the article were done with plume agates.. Can't remember the issue date.
You do some great stuff Ed.. you're a talented man. ..and this is a great cause. I lost my father to cancer a year ago Sept. so it hits home with me as well...

Well Stoner, looks like you could make plenty more of those and probably sell each one right here on the RTH. That's a fabulous piece!

OMG that is so beautiful and totally amazing. Ed, there isn't enough room to post all of the bouncing droolers that this deserves. I can't even imagine the amount of time that took and the shine is gorgeous. I forgot to mention that the lady this will belong to has finished all her treatments and is in full remission! She is our adult Sunday School teacher and only missed one Sunday throughout her treatments She has been a real inspiration to our small congregation!! I'm so glad to hear good reports like this, I hope your friend's remission lasts forever!! Cher

I am a 2 year survivor of Breast Cancer! Mine is in remission also. I pray it never comes back! Your work is beautiful she will be so proud to wear it. I think I will try making a necklace. Did you use a dremel? I think rose quartz would be pretty if I can find one with a deep enough pink color. What do you think? Sheri
