Well I didn't get a chance to do any rockhounding while I was in NM, but I did find a pretty cool place to buy rocks there. My wife looked in the yellow pages under rocks and found a listing for a mini mart. Kinda strange, so she called and the woman who owns the mini mart also sells rocks wholesale. She deals in different types of Mexican rocks and she's got some beauties. I bought around 55lbs and sent most of them back home in 3 flate rate boxes. When I got home from work today, 2 boxes were on my front porch-I just hope the third one shows up tomorrow! I brought a small sampling home in my luggage and took some pics yesterday, so here they are. Apache Chrysocolla Flame and plume agate from Sonora, Mex. Rainbow Obsidian from Jalisco Rasberry Garnet from Coahuila Laguna agate, from Chihuahua Smithsonite from Sinaloa She also had a bunch of Golden Labradorite that she was sorting into different quality ranges. She gave me a piece to play with. It sells wholesale for $1/gram.

Stoner, Very cool rock! I really like the Flame and Plume Agate as well as the Golden Labrodite. Can't wait to see some new cabs from your new rocks. Glad you made it home safe, and maybe next time you'll have extra time to do some rockhounding...although it looks like you did just fine. Steve

A mini-mart. Kinda like that place I was at in Austin that sold used office furniture and rock.

Hey Ed - You might want to rent a storage cubicle next time you're in NM and start mailin' the flat-raters in the other direction. That's one helluva bunch of rock for a mini-mart. Good reason to get a job if you move there - on the way to work everyday you pop in and get a coffee, the paper, and a couple of chunks.

I didn't post a pic of the golden labradorite. The last 2 pics are the smithsonite. It comes in pink and green, and I"ve got a few pieces that have the 2 colors on the same rock. I just opened the 2 boxes and everything made it okay. There's some nice Crazy lace agate and also some eye agate along with the Laguna agates and the obsidian. I sure hope the third box didn't get lost.
I just posted a pic of a cab from the Apache Chrysocolla in the cab section.

Sheeeesh, Don't I feel stupid. I was assuming the last pic was some sort of crazy Golden Labrodite. You know, something like Fire Agate, when you start grinding on it the "Golden" appears. Okay, so it's cool Smithsonite. Sorry Kim..not messing with your head. Steve
