The jewelery make that moved into the complex where I work told me he had some stones for me to play with. His family used to own a rock shop here in Campbell Ca, and although I never went there, I've heard it was one of the better shops around. I was speechless as he started pulling these pieces out and laying them on the table in front of me. Bloodstone, a Laker about 2" in diameter, sugelite, and something called Elat, from Isreal. Lapis, dino bone, and red horn coral. The coral is about the size of a quarter. Some nepherite jade, Siberian jade, black jade from Wyoming, and Malachite He also gave me a palm sized chunk of Gaudalupe poppy jasper, a chunk of Morgan hill poppy jasper, a slab of Montana agate and a slab of Brazillian agate. He said he doesn't cut much stone anymore and he knew I would put them to good use. I thanked him dearly and walked away with a big smile on my face.

Hey Stoner...when ya posted the stone from Isreal it rang a bell. Could it be called Eliate Stone? My reference book says it's a mixture of Chrysocolla, Turq & malachite.
At any rate...ALL of those are beauts!

That's exactly what it is Liz. He said it had a bunch of different copper-type minerals in it. I told him I'd cut some cabs for him but he said he didn't want anything in return. But you can bet I'll think of something I can give him in return. Oh, and he does have a lot more stashed away. He's the guy who sold the fire agates to the owner of my local rock shop.

If anyone has any more info on that eilate stone, please post it here because I have never heard of chrysocolla and turquoise occurring together ever!

Eilat stone Eilat stone is only found in King Solomon's copper mines on the Red Sea, near Eilat, Israel. This opaque green mineral is composed of azurite, malachite, turquoise, and chrysocolla. The hardness of this copper-based stone varies. There are many variations on its spelling, including Eliat, Elat, and Ellat.
