I saw a thread with some pics of the green stuff on it a day or two ago and kept meaning to reply that I thought it might be something i'd seen before but couldnt for the life of me remember what. Everyone was saying Emerald - but I thought it looked like "Beryl". Im sure that Beryl is along the Emerald line and it sure looked like a chunk I have bought in the past. Can anyone point me to that thread as I cannot seem to find it anywhere. Beryl it is - tho - Im sure.........ish Mark

Emerald IS beryl.
from wikipedia:
Green beryl is called emerald, red beryl is bixbite or red emerald or scarlet emerald, blue beryl is aquamarine, pink beryl is morganite, white beryl is goshenite, and a clear bright yellow beryl is called golden beryl. Other shades such as yellow-green for heliodor and honey yellow are common. Red beryl is extremely rare and is not used in jewelry as the crystals it forms are very small. Blue beryl (aquamarine) when exposed to sunlight will fade in color.
from Mindat:
Emerald: A green gem variety of Beryl, highly sought after as a precious gem stone. The majority of the worlds gem quality Emeralds come from the Muzo area of Colombia.
