I wasn't sure how to post the cabs so you could easily compare them to the rough rock, so I thought I'd just provide a link so you can have the original thread open in a new window. I have the cabs for sample #2-6. Don't ask what happened to #1. Here's the link to Jamie's post. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=Pictures&action=display&thread=1171572110&page=1#2 Easily takes a nice shine, good solid material #3 Excellent shine, solid material #4 I had to coax a shine out of this one but it finally took a nice shine, the rust colored bands wanted to undercut, nice solid material. #5 So-so shine, wound up with a pretty small cab, lots of breakage. #6 Coaxed a nice shine out of this one too. Like jade, seems to react better when some heat is built up. Nice solid material. Here's the link for the first rock Jamie was looking for feedback on. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1171355974&page=1And here's the cab. Excellent shine and good solid material. I'll have the cab for #1 tomorrow, but out of these, I would buy all but #5 with my favorites being #3 and #6-in that order. If you have questions, post them and I'll answer the best I can. ps. See the little guy looking at you in the last cab?

What would you say the rpospects are for tumbling? The one with the rust bands that undercut - would it go poorly in the tumbler?

Nice cabs! See - #2 also looks good when you make the cab. I'd have to agree - #3 is still my favorite, but I'm surprised that #4 didn't shine as easily. I noticed you hit the top portion on #6 - was the lower white/red/turquoise solid as well?

Nice going Ed! I knew you would make #2 look good. I love the look of #4, sorry it's a difficult stone to shine.

Just a quick note for now, #4 did take a nice shine, it just took more effort to get it, unlike an agate that is almost done coming off the 3k belt. I'll answer the rest later.

The cabs look wonderful, I like the brown rock that nobody liked as a slab, I think it turned out cool. I'm not real happy with the patterns in any of them though, I was hoping for more color. I am still on the prowl though, found some other new and interesting rough just yesterday. Will post some pictures later, its a brecciated agate, white/offwhite with streams of pink and red. We were looking for something that looked like crazyhorse and found this instead.

I like #4 the best. you seemed to catch the two prominant lines at a good angle in relation to the shape of the cab. Its just nice to look at. It reminds a bit of a beach with little tidal pools and star fish. The lines could be some sea kelp. Just what I see. I tend to see something if I look long enough; just needs to be nice to look at to get me going.

Hey Stoner,
They all look good to me ... although I have to claim the last one as my favorite.
That looks like good material to use on a horizontal picturesque winter scene.
Enjoy,
John

As for tumbling, all but #4 would tumble nicely. Akansan, the lower part of #6 crumbled off while cutting. Stephan, #2 is definitely not pet wood, probably a jasper. John, you're right, this is great material for winter scenes. I cut this piece vertically because of the little guy near the bottom with the big ears. Thanks for all the comments.
