Well, we had another great trip out in the desert this weekend. For the most part the weather cooperated and kept things cool. We visited my rock hounding haunts for a day before heading to Moab for 2 days of hiking, 4x4ing, exploring, and swimming. We spent an afternoon at my rock hunting grounds and discovered more dinosaur sites. I'm going back down there this weekend to show the authorities the dino sites. Of discouraging note, we found 2 sites that had been dug up. I wouldn't have know they were there had I not seen the holes. It will be interesting to see and hear what the State paleontologists have to say about this. I didn't collect too much rock but did find an amazing tree trunk of wood. It's probably over 750 lbs and will have to wait another millenia to 2 before it's collectible - or until someone takes explosives to it. Hopefully this weekend I'll have my camera handy for picts. Here is a sampling of pictures of my family exploring the area around Moab..... The first set of pictures are of Dead Horse Point near Canyonlands National Park. It's a must see!!!!! Dillon and Rainey Me, Rainey and Maddux - a few careless steps backward takes us to a deathly and miserable 9 second free-fall... Dillon showing his "I want to go home face" Maddux and the mightly Colorado River some 2 or 3 thousand feet below.....I'm gonna hurl.... Dillon's Cave... The next pictures are of our trek to Uranium Arch Here's my 4 Wheeler on the road to nowhere.... Here's the arch Rainey and Cousin on top of arch.....I'm gonna hurl.... Amy and Maddux (sleeping it off) Well I guess that's enough for one day. Hope you enjoyed the photos, gaeter

GREAT landscapes! Very nice family pictures.
But the tree trunk? Where's the tree trunk? Don't tell me you didn't picture it!

Scared the crap out of me just looking over the edge in the photos! Looks like you all had fun. So you could become famous for discovering a new dino graveyard? Cool! Now about that tree trunk. You need to rent one of those gas powered concrete saws and haul it out there and whack off a couple of chunks!

With scenery like that to keep you occupied, it's no wonder you didn't come home with many rocks! -Don

Gaetz, Just being out in that area last month..OMG it makes me home sick for it all. I love all of those areas out there. the landscape is truely artwork all in itself. Photos do not do justice the all those wonderful areas out there in God's country(utah, arizona, nevada). Great pics of the family too !!!!!! Do you have room for me and Betty and our 17 animals out there? HA HA HA I bet I have between 3000 to 4000 pics from the northern part of Utah to St. George area...(thank god for digital cameras with 512MB cards& spare cam cards)OMG I can never get enough of it. If Utah would have been affordable and would have had green enough pastures for my horses and donkeys, we would already be living there. Fantastic photos my friend......post more anytime please. Hey by the way, looks like i may end up coming out in october to visit my Dad in Mesquite , NV. so, maybe we can get together, with steveholmes then and do some site seeing and rocking hounding. Talk to you soon Steve

How in the world did you get the 4-wheeler to the tip of that cliff? How the heck did you get it back? Just looking at that picture gives me the instant pucker factor if you know what it I mean. And this is coming from an ex-paratrooper.

Gil-
Pucker factor!!!!! That's too funny you mentioned that because I kept saying that same phrase and my kids kept asking me, "what does puckered up mean"? The trail to the arch snaked along the top of the rim. We stopped for a quick snack and to take a few photos. I was so nervous up there on the rim (it was about 700 feet down) w/ all the kids wandering around and looking over the edge. My brother-in-law drove my 4x4 up to the edge and finally pushed it back off after I told him I would rather walk home than go get it!! One thing that scared me was I put my 1 year old son on the 4x4 and turned around to help my other daughter tie her shoe. A terribly sick feeling came over me that my son could get off and wander off that cliff and no one would ever see it. It was at that time I determined it was best to find a more relaxing spot to have lunch.
I'm still puckered up still thinking about it.
