For the one or two of you that may wonder, NO I am not an engineer or a machinist, for the rest of you, that can see I am not, I apologize. I may be jinxing myself but I built this and it has been running about 4 hours now. No fair on taking bets on how long it will run. It will tumble 6 15# barrels. Just need two more.I have a few more things I want to do, like drive all 4 shafts, but I will see if it makes it through the night frist........MrP

That's dang nice looking to me MrP. I've had thoughts of a behemouth tumbler running around in my head. I have thought of the multi barrels, but now I'm thinking more along the lines of one huge barrel. Advantages/disadvantages??

Looks like it will do just fine! Good-luck. Your doing much better than me....I have a home made tumbler that will roll 3 12# barrels at once, and it's been sitting idle for nearly 3 years. You'll need to start a small grit budget now. Let us know how it survives the night. Steve

Very nice. Hope it makes it through the night. I think you have done a great job.
How much rock DOES it take to fill those things?
Keep us updated.

Oh, I hope it keeps running for you 'cause if it does I'm gonna need details so I can "encourage" some very special family members to build one of those!
Rolling, rolling, rolling. Keep those barrels rolling, Mr. P! Move em up. Move em out, Mr. P !

Well done, MrP. Looks like a great design - very efficient with the motor tucked in there.

Great looking machine, but it would drive me crazy. I have enough trouble figuring out what to do with rocks coming out of 2 3 lbers, every 5 or 6 weeks. Terry

No reason to laugh about this, I think it's an awesome setup. I think commercial tumblers are way over priced and are way over rated. You got my vote for best tumbler.

Wow that's a big sucker. ONe question for you. Do you have bearings where the rods go through the plastic support pieces? If not you might want to keep it well oiled. Many plastics, even thermosetting plastics, can get soft at temperatures as low as 120 degrees.

WoW Thanks for all the nice comments.
It is still running and looks like it may run a long time
Curt You are not going to believe this but I think my setup is the best way to go. Now you do know that I am not biased ;D. I think with more barrels you can do more things at once. One of my barrels is a split barrel so that is even more options. If I had made one big one I would be pulling that way. ;D
Steve I think you are wrong. It looks like a LARGE grit budget but don't tell my bride that ;D
Mitze 60lbs at this time. More depending on what size I get for the other two barrels.
Lady B Yes rolling rolling rolling
Terry can't remember my name sometimes but seem to remember where I am at with the tumblers ;D
Beef I still need two more so I will NOT be telling you I got them off of ebay. Two of them complete and and two barrels alone. The two barrels were $45 with shipping and the way he sent them it cost him $38. Not to sure how much he made on the deal ;D.
Kim Thanks
Stoner BEST TUMBLER ;D ;D ;D
Tonyterner No bearings. That plastic is what we used for wear surface under heavy chain conveyor and it was even used for some bearing applications. I am not sure what kind of plastic it is but it is some tough stuff. A little oil does good. If I do have problems I Will put some bronze oilite bushings in.
Thanks again for your support and encouragement.........MrP

No kidding. Once the design proves itself, get an attorney and protect your design! Then, put together some kits and sell them.
