I have been working on a couple of Jasper "pictures" that I found in two different slabs I purchased a few months ago. They are both very delicate pieces and I ended up hand sanding and hand polishing them instead of the traditional way in an attempt not to ruin them. The first is a piece of Picasso Jasper and it turned out a very cool misty mountain sunset(or sunrise). It is very soft and worked up more like a soapstone than a jasper. I traced a silver dollar piece over it and used the edge of the saw blade and the grinder to carefully get the shape, then sanded by hand. I had posted an earlier pic before, and now this is the end result...... The second is a slab from a chunk of reddish Picture Jasper, about 1 1/2"x 2". It was the best out of 3 slabs with almost the same "picture" in each. I was afraid of losing too much of the scene at the edges, so I sanded and polished it the way it was. It reminds me of the sun as it sets on the ocean, or even a dessert sunset...... Thanks for looking! Dave

Thanks everyone for the compliments! ;D I am really starting to love the Picture Jaspers. There are so many great scenes to be found, even with a little imagination at times. The material is usually soft, and great for hand finishing and polishing. Even though the process takes longer, I find more enjoyment working them this way.
