recently Kap had a quartz cluster for sale --- after talking/trading/bartering-- a deal was struck ! ;D ;D anyway, when it arrived it was mostly a creamy/dark brown ( might remember the pics in the "for sale" section)---- I told it before it could come in the house and sit on the shelf it would have to take a bath and wash behind it's "crystals" ( where ever that is?? )-------- anyway, this is a pic after the "bath" ---- pure white and sparkling ! ;D ;D --- it's little brother came along too but he hasn't washed quite as good yet -- he's still in the "tub" ;D thanks Keith !! ;D --- I like it !! ( thought it looked like a snow cone but not as cold! )

It's gorgeous. What kind of bath did you make it take?

Real nice. I know it has a little brother but is this a male or female of the species? What did it bath in? Oxalic acid? I did a bunch of the quartz you sent me in the stuff and it worked great.

Edog -- boy did I ever make a mistake!! ---- since the bigger one had matching twin peaks and valleys in all the right places , I took it to be the "her" of the species ;D --- figured the small one was a " him" --------- turns out after the bath , it is a "her" too!! -- the peaks are there and are matched but just don't stand out as much ! ( maybe a bit younger! ) ;D ;D ;D actually I used several different thing in the bath -- oxalic, muratric, ( liquid ) and the dry "pool P H reducer" ( which is the same as the liquid form )--- let it soak for a couple days then used the high pressure sprayer to blast it off -- then repeat it KD --- yes you should be able to clean the amethyst the same way --- a easy way to get some acid is to just buy a small box of "ph reducer" at walmart or some other place that has pool supplies ------ it is easy to handle since it is dry , but watch for fumes coming off when pouring it in the water --- always do it outside! CP --- well , luckily I didn't have to hand wash in all those places ! ;D --- I just had them turmed over and let the "wand" do the washing ;D ;D!!

I am glad you liked the clusters. What I use to clean them is Super Iron Out. You can buy it in the plumbing section at Wal Mart. Just set them in the sun for a couple of days and hose off. Keith

When I used the muratric acid it turned the water and acid mix yellow. The crystals came out with yellow stains on them also. I soaked the quartz for a couple days at room temp and nothing really cleaned up until I dumped the quartz in the oxalic and water, then turned the heat on the crockpot, the quartz came clean in 1 day with no yellowing.

Yes I do, to heat it up, much faster. I like faster that way I can simmer some chili when I'm done cleaning the quartz
