Wow and Wow again!! These are just gorgeous. Your very lucky to have such a place to collect from. I hope you'll show pics when they're finished in the tumble.

Mike, Those are fabulousy delicious! I love the bright oranges and reds, and definitely the bandings. I'd love to be able to find some of that material around here. It will make an excellent batch of tumbled stones. Thanks for showing us...too cool! Steve

You have a splendid batch there! I don't want to guess how many tumblers do you have if you need those ear protections. Adrian

180Mike,
4 hours is a bit of a drive, but I'd drive that long to find rough like that too!
Is that Queensland agate? The grey stuff reminds me of Botswana agate, and the red pieces are kind of like Lake Superior agates, but with much brighter reds. I've bought some Queensland agates on ebay, but they haven't been as nicely banded as your rough, and they tend more to red/yellow tones, so I'm not sure if it's from the same agate beds as you are picking up or not.
Anyway, super finds, those look like very hard agates and should tumble to a spectacular shine, but make sure your patience factor is at its maximum when you start tumbling these, 'cause they are likely to take awhile. -Don

Great rocks. I thought the same thing as Rollingstone. Some of them look a lot like Bostwana agates, and others like Queensland agates. The variety you have out in your area is amazing.

Don and Condor - most "Queensland agate" comes from a designated public fossicking area in NW Queensland called "Agate Creek". It is a 15-20hour drive from here and out in teh middle of no where.
I collect this material from privately owned land in "Windera". It is not well known and as far as I know there is only one family that will allow rock hounds onto their property. Fortunately I have gotten to know them...and they actually like me! The fact that I have taken my 2 gorgeous kids with me a couple of times (ages 2 and 4 years) has helped!
Thanks for your comments folks.

Those are fantastic! It must be exhilarating to just find them. Great colors but I think the fortification agates are my favorites. Definitly remind me of Botswana agate. Thanks. P.S. Post pics when they are finished tumbling, can't wait to see them.

Beautiful agates. What are the sizes of those agate pieces? Seems to me that they would be suitable for cabbing, also. I am also eager to see them out of polish.
