Last time I was up at the farm where I collect all of my jaspers and agates, I picked up a couple of buckets full of big jasper chunks. Way to big for my teeny tiny saw. So, a few weeks ago I went at them with my handy dandy rock smashin' hammer. What I found was that inside many of these jaspers was not just jasper but a blend of jasper and agate. I took some photos of what I smashed. They are all wet, of course and some will need to experience another encounter with Mr Hammer, but, here's the pics. The orangey red material on the left of this one is carnelian, I think I love the mixture of colours in this one. The pinks, greys that are almost blue, purples, reds and yellows This has patches that are like a moss agate I really like these last two. I like the vibrant colours and sharp contrasts. Thanks for having a look. Have a top day. Mike

Wow, Mike, I simply can't pick a favorite among them! They all are fantastic. With such beauty rocks, a serious saw and a flat lap are a must!

Just got off the phone with the guy who owns the farm. I'll be back out there in 4 weeks from tomorrow with a group of guys. We'll be camping on the property over night so there should be plenty of time to hunt agates and jaspers!
WOOHOO!

Outstanding looking material Mike! Excellent array of colors and I really like the way all the agate is mixed in. Bet it polishes up real well! Most your Aussie material is quite unlike anything we have here and its really neat to see the pics of what you pick up!.....Mel

Thats some really exciting rocks Mike, thanks for sharing them! You have some really intense colours in those rocks, it's very intricate looking. How hard is the material? I hope it's going to take a good polish for you! ;D I was only looking at some weird jaspergate earlier! The examples I found were from a Scottish island - probably the same vein running right through hey?! ( www.agatesofscotland.co.uk/Burn%20Anne%20Page.htm ) Are you going to cut and polish, tumble or otherwise process the rough? I look forward to seeing what happens Cheers, Harry.

Harry, those are sensational mate!
There certainly are some similarities between the two. Unfortunately I have never found any with much in the way of defined banding.
Thanks for sharing those with us.

No problem Mike, just sprang to mind when I saw your fab rocks, there's some great looking material you have there, I like the more "detailed" rocks, banding is great, but unless it's fortification style, I think it lacks the character of moss or jaspers. We look forward to the next installment.
Cheers all,
Harry.

Those are beautiful, I think their color is really going to shine when you cut into them. Tami
