That one with the green...I think it's moldy meatloaf. I wouldn't want Peyton to try to eat it and get sick so you better send it over here for safe keeping. As for the rest of your 'finds'...what a neat friend you have and what a neat brother she has to bring back all those beautiful specimens. That one piece in the fourth pic down lloks like a nice big cut of bacon! Now get to work, slabbing and cabbing! Lady B

Looks mostly like wood to me also, those in #6 look a little like the Serpentine I showed a while back though, is it soft?
We need a signal for Mel, Kind of like a the Old Bat signal they would flash in the sky. Something like ^ in the subject so he will know to come look.
Lady B for shame, you have had meatloaf that looked like that? Ok, I've seen it also, but i won't tell where. Ha!

Looks like some nice stuff there John. I especially like the woods. The green stuff could be one of several things...could be malachite, variscite, or even turquoise(at least in the 3rd pic). I'm guessing variscite, but Mel will grade me. Have fun with the new stuff. Steve

First of all, the moldy meatloaf was an experiment I tried when I first got married and that was over 35 years ago. Haven't repeated it since. Seriously though, I think we need a board titled: Ask the Experts or Ask Mel. It would make it a lot easier for the people in the know to help those of us who think a rock looks like moldy meatloaf. *L* Ah the pressure , the pressure. I suspect the green spotted one is turquoise as there's lots of green matrix turquoise in Nevada and I think not so much variscite but heck I could be wrong too. I'd guess malachite for the green veined specimen ( Nevada has a jasper/malachite combo that is called parrot wing just like he Mexican material) Lots of nice wood in Nevada, both opalized and agatized. Definitely some of that in the mix. Next to last pick might be wood too but could be Lahontanite which is a jasper very much like Mook that comes from the Lahontan basin of Nevada. Just guesses though. Lots of jaspers and agates look pretty much alike *S*.....Mel

Green... green GREEN! Is there anything better than green rock? Doubtful!
The top spotted one...gosh, if that's turquoise...how cool.

I put it all to the saw late last night and most of the smaller pieces of wood broke up and is now in the tumbler. Thanks for sending out the Mel signal. The green matrix turquoise cut very nicely, a little soft but I think it will polish nicely (three preforms are waiting). The white stuff (wood I think) is super hard like an agate and I think it will make some nice cabs. I did get a few slabs of bacon too. I want to work a few pieces and give it back to my friends brother before he heads back to college. I must hurry!! Thanks all, your great! He had some little pieces of opal and something he called Oregon Sunset, looked like Amber. john

BuiltonRock said...."I did not get off work until 6:00, so it was around 6:01 when I could get there." Very funny. It cracked me up. You ended with some mighty fine woods there. Condor
