I believe this stuff is called Kabamba jasper, from a site near the Kabamba river in Madagascar. Can get kind of confusing though, since there is another material from Madagascar that has a very similar name, but looks similar to ocean jasper. Anyway, I think this is also called pollywog jasper, which is probably easier to remember. ;D I used a 4-stage tumble for these (60/90, 120/220, 500F, CPP), ending with 15 days in the polish barrel. The colour is a bit dark in the first photo, the close-ups are truer. -Don [ thanks for looking!

Dons spotty rocks are here again! I can't resist pictures like those Squire, you have such a skill at putting on the polish. That's a lovely batch of stones. Are the orbs fossils or magic stone formation? The greeneyness is really earthy, like that far eastern jade sort of colour. It's like they've got eyes! Cool rocks indeed. Thanks very much for sharing the pictures Don, loot photos do make me smile, and that's some lovely African treasure. Brilliant Cheers, Harry. Tttzzzztt! Crackle spark zzzt. Yup! Gonna need a new keyboard, I wonder if they do an anti drool cover?

SENSATIONAL! I have seen this stuff before as rough or as slabs but I had not seen it polished until now. I like it. Good job, mate.

Cool! I wonder if that is some kind of a fossil agate/jasper or a natural geological formation?

WOW! Another spectacular and stunning batch. I think you must have a glass jar full of almost every type of rock there is; tumbled. They do look Alien-ish....and I like em'. Steve

Thanks for the compliments everyone!
This is a really cool looking rock in my books, but it is softer than agate or jasper, maybe more like rhodonite (Mohs 6, or so). Shapes up relatively quickly in coarse grind, but tougher to put a good shine on than something like agate. Can't beat the wild pattern though! -Don

Love that kambaba jasper. It was the first slab I ever bought, which for some reason I can't find now. Hope I didn't eat it by mistake. The rock looks really cool on this small scale, the orbs really dominate. Good job.
