This puppy just came out of his crysalis this morning. He was the result of a caterpillar rescue. There were many on my parsley patch when I returned from vacation. However, the parsley was almost gone, it was over 100 every day & drought. I didn't want the little buggers to die, so I brought a couple in and bought parsley at the supermarket to feed them! He was warming up in the sun, I guess & he took off right after the photo. Welcome to the world! What do I get for posing so prettily? Unfortunately his rest was only brief, as one of his buddies (?) came along and ran him off the feeder. My yard is a hummer circus right now. Having 7 feeders helps.

Whats a crysalis? You are using way bigger words than I can comprehend. Is it a cocoon?

Thanks, Lady B for helping out with the info & for the compliments. I love this camera. I took that one from about 15 ft. with the zoom telephoto -- I managed to get off several shots but this was the best. Too bad I missed him sparring with his attacker. Or her attacker, actually. I tried using it in digital telephoto range to get a shot of another feeder and unbelieveably, I actually got some image -- I was freehanding with the camera while seated on a lounge chair and they were incredibly non-blurry. I always have a lot of nervous moments with those swallowtails but as long as I don't mess with them they always do fine.
