So, I just got around to adding an avatar! (at least I hope I did this successfully) What do you think of my pet walrus?

Ah, I was going to guess cheetos! Congrats on figuring out the avatar stuff.
Cher, love your "resistance is futile - you will be assimilated" It's so true!

Vance, My dog Stella is the spitting image of your walrus, minus the cheetos. Only picture I have on PB.

How cute. How'd you get her to hold still without gobbling the cheetos?

I have trained her to do about ten or twelve great tricks, and one of the first tricks was to hold a dog biscuit in her mouth without eating it. Here is a tutorial if anyone wants to know how to do it:
I put a milk bone treat in her mouth between her front teeth and clamped down with one hand around her snout so she couldn't chew it. I held my other hand behind her head so she couldn't jerk her head away. Then I repeated the phrase "don't eat it" over and over again. I would suddenly let go and say "ok", and she would eat the treat. After doing this about 8 or 10 times in a row, that would end the training session. The next session, I would do the same thing, only then I would start to loosen my fingers just slightly from around her snout. If she started to chew, I could clamp down again and say "don't eat it" a little louder and more firmly. After a while, I could loosen my fingers very slowly until I wasn't holding her at all and I could ease my hand away. She would just sit there and not chew until I said "ok". It only took two or three sessions of 15 minutes each for her to learn the trick completely. The greatest benefit was that from then on, any time I put anything in her mouth, I could just say "don't eat it" and she would freeze still and not chew. So, when it came to the walrus/cheetos trick, I just stuck the cheetos under her lips, told her not to eat it , and took the photo. I had to be quick about taking the photo, though, otherwise she would start doing some unsightly drooling!
