So, as I mentioned in the general forum, I stopped by the rock shop that's closing to see what they had. Besides ascertaining the saws were all sold and reserving one of the cabbing machines, I spent about 15 minutes (all that was left of my lunch hour!) looking at the rocks. I mainly looked at slabs, because they were neatly organized - at least, it wasn't a matter of digging in the dirt to find the nice pieces! I did manage to find a few other pieces though in a short amount of time. Pics are horrible, so sorry about that. My favorite - about 2.5 lbs: What the guy kept calling Owyhee, but I'm thinking Biggs(?) - about 4 lbs. Pretty dendritic agate, Marfa(?) - 1 lb. Some unknown, but the written price on the stone is $23.50 - 3.5 lbs. Plus a five or six smaller pieces of pet wood and about 15 slabs, including a large jade slab (6" x 6") And for this, I paid $25, and I think the guy wanted me to bargain with him! I'll be stopping in again on Friday to pick up the reserved grinder and dig through the rocks when I have more time.

Those are some nice looking rocks! The 2nd and 3rd pics look like Palomino Picture Stone to me. Looking forward to seeing pics of the other stuff you got. Daniel

Great haul! First piece is mislabeled if he was trying to spell Brazil. That;s the famed Dunes Picture Rock which is actually Oaxaca travertine out of Mexico. Picture jasper is probably not Biggs. Looks more like one of the McDermitt area types like Disaster Peak or Arroyo and danged if that last rock doesn't look almost like a Fairburn. Great finds all! The Oaxaca is getting real scarce these days....Mel

The Biggs was a guess, as I knew it was something I have seen but not a lot of. I actually think it's the same mystery rock you've listed elsewhere. I did KNOW though that it wasn't Owyhee! I was just surprised someone that plays with rocks frequently (lapidarist) would mislabel those.

Mel that was my thought on the last one too, looks like a Fairburn Agate to me. Rhonda, you got some really cool stuff, too bad the shop is closing though.
